The Musigny Georges Roumier 2011 is a distinguished Grand Cru Pinot Noir from one of Burgundy`s most esteemed vineyards. The vineyard spans just under 10 hectares and is known for its exceptional terroir. The 2011 vintage benefited from a warm growing season, resulting in wines with pronounced aromatics. This Musigny presents a bright ruby hue, with a bouquet of red fruit, floral notes and minerality. The palate reveals a firm structure, characterised by fine, polished tannins.

Good dark red. Some very ripe notes to the aromas of raspberry, mocha and woodsmoke. Powerful and impressively concentrated, with terrific acidity and energy to the crushed berry and floral flavors. Finishes quite primary, even a bit austere, with a repeating crushed fruit character, serious tannic clout and terrific persistence. This will need at least five to seven years to open.Stephen Tanzer1st March 2014

Domaine Georges Roumier

A Icon of Fine Burgundy

One of Burgundy's most famous producers - founded in 1924 by Georges Roumier, the domaine was passed to his son Jean-Marie in 1957 and eventually on to his grandson Christophe in the early 1990s. Vines are either rented from family members or managed on a share-cropping basis and the cellar team operate a dynamic approach to winemaking, subtly altering their techniques depending on the vineyard and vintage. Some fruit is fully destemmed before fermentation while some is partially destemmed. A cool maceration takes place before fermentation, which takes place in wooden vats, and punch downs happen twice a day. Use of new oak is judicious - only around 20% for the village wines, 35% for the Premier Crus and 50% for the Grand Crus.

If Georges Roumier only produced Chambolle-Musigny, Bonnes Mares and Clos St Denis, the winery would still be considered one of the greatest in Burgundy, but their other-worldly Musigny Grand Cru elevates their status among the great wineries of France to legendary.
