de Vogüé Musigny 1996 is a full-bodied Burgundy red wine from the Musigny Grand Cru of Chambolle-Musigny in the Côte de Nuits. Dating back to the 15th century, Comte Georges de Vogüé is undoubtedly one of the finest Domaines in the Côte de Nuits. The estate is currently led by the sisters Comtesse Claire de Causans and Marie de Ladoucette, with Jean Lupatelli as chef de cave. De Vogüé holds a 7.2-hectare plot in the Musigny Grand Cru, by far the biggest landowner in the 10.8-hectare vineyard. On the 1996 Musigny. "The expressive nose now blends notes of both primary and secondary fruit aromas that are nuances but notes of anise, tea, soy and clove. Like many `96s this is not especially dense (though it`s by no means dilute) but I do like the intense minerality and delineation of the medium-bodied flavours that are supported by notably fine tannins on the focused and powerful finish that is dusty, beautifully complex reasonably well-balanced. For my taste, this is basically at its peak though it should easily hold there for a very long time. Multiple and largely consistent notes though one recent bottle displayed some finishing dryness. Overall, this is really quite pretty as the innate class of Musigny is on display." Burghound, 2022

Very good deep red-ruby. Black cherry, boysenberry, rose petal, licorice, minerals, shoe polish, mint and white pepper on the nose. Extremely unyielding today in the middle palate, and dominated by its rather large structure. Exotic hints of citrus fruit keep the flavors bright and sharp. Then extremely long and authoritative on the back end. A wine of great potential, but it's all nose and finish today. May ultimately merit a considerably higher score.
