Mulline Bannockburn Syrah 2022 is a single-vineyard red wine from Geelong. This wine is partially crafted from whole bunches (30%) and matured in French barriques, with 20% being new oak. Aromas reveal blackcurrant, plum and subtle herbal notes, alongside a faint mineral touch. This medium-bodied Syrah exhibits a structured profile, supported by fine tannins that provide a moderate grip. Produced by Mulline, a winery known for its focus on single-vineyard expressions in the Geelong region, this wine is expected to benefit from further cellaring. Presented here in magnum format.

The Bannockburn region produces Shiraz/Syrah wines that I find to be very distinct in the glass, with notes of cocoa powder, bone/meat broth (almost bonox), salted licorice, freshly turned earth and blueberry skin. This 2022 Bannockburn Syrah runs hard and true into the curve of the region and fills the mouth with a chocolaty, seamless flow of flavor and tannic structure. It is fresh and earthy, with gritty feels to the tannins and a core of clarity and density. 13.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap. - Erin Larkin

100% Syrah, clone PT23. Bannockburn vineyard, planted 1990–1996. The warmest and driest site among Mulline’s subregion wines. Limestone clay with a very shallow topsoil horizon. Stainless-steel fermented, 30% whole bunch. Aged for 8 months in 20% new French oak. Screwcap. Deep crimson. Whole bunch seems to show in a peppery, leafy, dry finesse. Juicy, mouth-watering and relatively light-bodied. Elegant style. (JH)
