Duty Charges

Below is a summary of the new duty charges per bottle as of February 2026. Please note that these vary depending on the ABV and are subject to change. Please get in touch if you require more information:

Transparent Billing and Rate Calculations

Annual Billing: Clients are invoiced annually based on the wines stored in the preceding year.
Case Equivalents: A case is defined as 9 litres of wine (typically twelve 750ml bottles), ensuring clarity in pricing.
Pro-Rata Charges: Storage fees are charged on a per-bottle basis, and wines stored for part of a month will be billed accordingly.

How to Use Our Bonded Storage

Purchase en primeur or under-bond wines from Hedonism Wines.
Automatically enjoy twelve months of free storage at our bonded storage when you open your storage account.
After twelve months, your storage will continue at the rates outlined above, with quarterly invoicing.
When you are ready to receive your wines, simply request delivery. Most orders are fulfilled within 3-4 working days.

One of the most famous wines in the world, Château Mouton-Rothschild is located in Pauillac, around 30 miles north-west of Bordeaux itself. The château pioneered the idea of bottling their own wine in the 1920s while other properties were still selling and exporting in barrel. Alongside the quality of their wine, Mouton-Rothschild are also famous for their commissioning of world famous artists to create their labels with a new design featuring each year. The 1961 vintage is designed by artist Georges Mathieu.

The 1961 Mouton-Rothschild is a legendary vintage. I encountered this twice before, though it is less frequently seen than other First Growths. Of course, much to Baron Philippe de Rothschild’s indignation, back then, Mouton-Rothschild was still a Second Growth. Their 1961 is slightly shaded by the venerated Latour or even their own 1945 Mouton-Rothschild – it doesn’t have the stellar reputation of those. That should take nothing from what I consider one of the standouts of that vintage. It was a pleasure to taste a bottle that had never moved from the cellar until this evening. The 1961 remains a deep color with remarkably little aging on the rim. The bouquet is a kaleidoscope of aromas: black fruit, pencil shavings, cigar humidor and then after an hour, more exotic aromas, shades of blue fruit and crushed violet join the chorus line. Yet, at no point could this wine come from anywhere else except Pauillac. Though I’ve never drunk them side-by-side, the palate has exquisite balance and possesses as much depth as the Latour. Certainly, there is more concentration and complexity than the 1961 Lafite-Rothschild, adorned as it is with enthralling purity of fruit tinged with wild mint towards its peacock’s tail finish. The prestigious Château Mouton Rothschild estate is home to the world-renowned First Growth of the same name, in addition to a second red wine, Petit Mouton and a white wine, made in smaller quantities, known as L'Aile d'Argent. Established in 1853 by Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild, the Château pioneered the idea of bottling their own wine in the 1920s while other properties were still selling and exporting in barrel. A Second Growth until 1972, the winery was officially elevated to the high rank of Bordeaux classification in 1973 after much campaigning by the famous Baron Philippe de Rothschild.

Cabernet Sauvignon that takes pride of place in the wines of Mouton Rothschild, with smaller percentages of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Cabernet Sauvignon always predominates in the Mouton red, giving the wine its rich tannins, wealth of aroma, flavour and superb ageing capacity. Meanwhile Merlot, an inseparable companion, brings suppleness, roundness and exceptional length.
