Morey-St-Denis Domaine Dujac 2014 is a village-level red Pinot Noir from the Côte de Nuits. The Seysses family employs a signature winemaking style involving a high proportion of whole-cluster fermentation, which imparts a structural lift and distinct herbal perfume to the wine. The 2014 vintage produced a profile of great clarity and energetic tension, reflecting the limestone-heavy soils of the appellation. This approach results in a refined, soulful expression where the primary red cherry and violet notes are supported by a fine-grained tannic grip and a persistent, spicy finish of forest floor and subtle game.
Vinous
- Unfortunately, the 2014 Morey-Saint-Denis from Domaine Dujac is not at all expressive. It happens. I found the 2014 terrific a year ago, but on this night, it is in a rather grumpy mood. There is nothing obviously wrong with this bottle, but it’s just not great. This is one of the downsides of tasting wine critically for work. I find it hard to enjoy a wine if there is anything slightly not perfect about a bottle. Not an issue, though, as the focus is more on food than wine anyway.

A Focus on Terroir

Founded in the late 1960s by Jacques Seysses, who purchased and renovated Domaine Graillet in Morey-St-Denis. The estate is currently run by Jacques' sons Jeremy and Alec, who farm around 17 hectares of vines across the Côte including holdings in Echezeaux, Clos de la Roche, Charmes-Chambertin and Bonnes Mares.

A natural approach is taken in the vineyard and cellar with the estate moving from organic farming to fully biodynamic in the mid 2000s, receiving their certification in 2011. The team's focus is on elegance - temperatures are controlled to keep alcohol in check and also limit malolactic fermentation while juice from the crush is fed into the cellar by gravity only without the use of pumping. The wines of Domaine Dujac represent pure, balanced expressions of their respective terroirs.
