Domaine Fourrier Morey-St-Denis Clos Solon 2016 is a medium-bodied Burgundy Pinot Noir produced from the lieu-dit of Clos Solon in the Morey-Saint-Denis appellation of the Côte de Beaune. Situated in the village of Gevrey-Chambertin, Domaine Fourrier is a family-owned wine producer currently managed by Jean-Marie Fourrier. Before taking over from his father in 1994, Jean-Marie worked as an apprentice of the legendary Henry Jayer and as a trainee winemaker at Domaine Drouhin in Oregon. Clos Solon is consistently among the best village Morey-Saint-Denis bottlings, sourced from this 0-5-hectare parcel. "Glowing purple colour. Superb fruit immediately hits the nose and the palate with a racy generosity, floral at first then more animal. Dense dark fruit, good mix with tannin and acidity at the end, persistent for village Morey." Jasper Morris MW, 2017

Quite light on the nose but very mellifluous and charming on the palate. Easy, a little casual, but with good focus and charm on the end. (JR)Jancis Robinson8th January 2018
Vinous
Healthy dark red. High-pitched perfume of cherry, red licorice and minerals. Energetic wine in a rather cool, leanish style, offering good intensity and medicinal reserve. Finishes with harmonious, toothdusting tannins and good length but with its firm acidity, this comes across as slightly tart. Stephen Tanzer1st January 2018

Jean-Marie Fourrier has been at the helm of his family domaine since the mid 1990s and has steadily risen to become one of Gevrey-Chambertin's most important vignerons. Having served an apprentice under the famous Henri Jayer before a brief stint at Domaine Drouhin in Oregon, Jean-Marie returned to France with a clear vision to raise to improve the quality of his wines to be the equal of any in the Côte de Nuits.

Grapes are destemmed after picking and fermentation is kept on the cooler side. A 36 - 48 hour maceration precedes the fermentation, punching down is manual and malolactic fermentation is restricted through temperature control. These are superbly elegant wines which push their ethereal fruit character to the fore.
