Domaine des Lambrays Morey-Saint-Denis Clos Baulet 2022 is a Premier Cru from the smallest vineyard in the Morey-Saint-Denis appellation, located just below Clos des Lambrays. The 2022 vintage provided a warm, generous growing season, resulting in a wine with deep fruit concentration and supple tannins. Despite the heat, the domaine’s focus on early picking has preserved a fresh red fruit profile of raspberry and cherry, complemented by floral notes of violet and rose. This Clos Baulet is characterised by its silky texture and a persistent mineral finish, offering a refined and accessible expression of Morey-Saint-Denis terroir.

The 2022 Morey-Saint-Denis Clos Baulets 1er Cru has a very focused bouquet. The 40% stems (again) are neatly integrated, less expressive and generous than the Clos Sorbé, but this has developed more terroir expression with subtle slate-like scents that enhance complexity. Wonderful delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with a fresher citrus entry and powdery tannins. It is less sensual in style but has a touch more tension on the finish with that blood-orange tincture in the background. Excellent – this has slipped past the Clos Sorbé! Neal Martin9th April 2024

Very small, 0.87 ha climat just below Clos des Lambrays on clay. This 0.3 ha plot at the western end of it was re-acquired by Clos des Lambrays so recently from the Cossons, who owned Clos des Lambrays between 1938 and 1979 and owned Clos Baulet for 41 years, that this is their first vintage. Average vine age 35 years. 40% whole bunches. 17 months in 20% new oak.Pretty intense nose. Gentler fruit and less obvious tannin than Les Loups. A real charmer. Lots of violet notes. Approachable already! Very intense fruit too. (JR)Jancis Robinson12th March 2024
