The 1999 Montrachet Marquis de Laguiche from Joseph Drouhin is a distinguished Grand Cru white Burgundy, produced exclusively from Chardonnay. This wine originates from a notable monopole of 2.06 hectares in the prestigious Montrachet Grand Cru vineyard, owned by the Marquis de Laguiche and managed by Joseph Drouhin, a revered producer since 1880 known for its commitment to terroir-driven wines. This vintage exhibits aromas of ripe citrus and floral notes, accompanied by subtle hints of toasted nuts. The palate reveals a concentrated essence balanced by acidity and a lingering finish characteristic of its Grand Cru status.
93 Vinous
The 1999 Montrachet Grand Cru is poured from magnum, the first in a flurry of wines commencing a La Paulée in Beaune. I find this a little spirituous on the nose, powerful, almost "burly" in style. I would have liked more mineralité to show through. The palate is actually better with impressive weight. This is a broad-shouldered Montrachet with a slightly oily texture and a dash of white pepper mixed with green olives on the finish. Fine, but just missing the pedigree of the best vintages. 18 Jancis Robinson
Already looks golden and unctuous. Smoky nose. Very lively, pungent perfume combined with real substance and non-aggressive chew (as in a young wine with lots to give as opposed to the astringence of hard-pressed grapes). This one seems to have a very bright future. Confident, with lots there. Sleek, youthful with a smoky finish. (JR)Jancis Robinson4th November 2004
