Le Montrachet – or simply Montrachet – was made an appellation in 1937, around the same time as most of Burgundy`s other top grand cru vineyards. The highly prized vineyard is situated between the villages of Puligny- and Chassagne-Montrachet, in the Côte de Beaune subregion. The soil here is particularly chalky, with plenty of stones and perfectly drained. Louis Jadot’s Montrachet is made with Chardonnay grapes that are harvested by hand, gently pressed and fermented in oak barrels, followed by a 15-month maturation process. This is a nuanced, full-bodied wine, featuring notes of peaches, white flowers and honey.
Vinous
The 2019 Montrachet Grand Cru is tasked with following the stunning Chevalier-Montrachet and, to be frank, it never achieves the same degree of intensity on the nose, coming across rather conservative by comparison. The palate is well balanced with a tang of marmalade enlivening the opening. Very good weight and persistence, as you would demand from a "Monty," yet it does not possess the swagger and hubris of the superior Chevalier.
