Montrachet 2015 from Henri Boillot is a Grand Cru white from the Côte de Beaune, produced from Chardonnay grown on the renowned limestone-rich slopes of Montrachet. The 2015 vintage, marked by warm, sunny conditions and low yields, yielded grapes of exceptional concentration and aromatic purity. The wine displays a complex bouquet of white flowers, citrus, ripe stone fruit and toasted hazelnut, with subtle mineral undertones. On the palate it is full-bodied yet precise, with layered texture, vibrant acidity and a long, lingering finish.
Vinous
(Boillot has a single new 350-liter barrel of this juice): Bright yellow. Extremely unevolved nose hints at smoky oak and grilled nuts. More powerful, full and backward than the Chevalier-Montrachet; there's some yellow peach fruit lurking but today the wine is dominated by saline minerality and spices. Finishes with a tannic impression and lingering spices. This Montrachet has the structure of a red wine.Stephen Tanzer1st September 2016

Father and Son

In some ways, Henri Boillot has one foot in the past and one in the present. His family domaine, which he manages with his son Guillaume, has a history dating back to the 1880s, but the wines produced from their Meursault-based winery are undeniably modern, approachable and ranked among some of the very best in the region. Alongside operating a highly successful négociant business, the Boillot family own around 14 hectares of vineyards in the Côte de Beaune including a Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru monopole in the form of Clos de la Mouchère.

The winery don't shy away from the use of new oak and any overtly woody character is generally well balanced by ripe fruit. The Chardonnays range from citrus driven and fresher at the villages level all the way to ripe, tropical and creamy at the Grand Cru level. The reds are lighter and more elegant than they used to be with Henri's son Guillaume preferring a less extracted style of Pinot Noir.
