Henri Boillot`s Montrachet Grand Cru 2013 reveals a multi-layered aroma profile featuring ripe yellow stone fruit, grilled lemon, and exotic spices. The oak is seamlessly integrated, providing a beautiful balance. The concentration and vitality of the wine are captivating, underscored by excellent acidity. Ready to be enjoyed now but it will also benefit from longer ageing.

Pale, bright yellow. Vibrant aromas of orange zest, lime leaf, linden flower and crushed rock. Dense, thick and utterly seamless, but a bit heavier and less refined than the Chevalier-Montrachet. This big boy displays outstanding depth of fruit and a slightly exotic soft citrus character. Incidentally, this wine is carrying a moderate 13% alcohol. Boillot has long maintained that alcohol is inversely proportional to energy, and that a white Burgundy at 14% is unlikely to have real vigor.Stephen Tanzer1st September 2014

Father and Son

In some ways, Henri Boillot has one foot in the past and one in the present. His family domaine, which he manages with his son Guillaume, has a history dating back to the 1880s, but the wines produced from their Meursault-based winery are undeniably modern, approachable and ranked among some of the very best in the region. Alongside operating a highly successful négociant business, the Boillot family own around 14 hectares of vineyards in the Côte de Beaune including a Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru monopole in the form of Clos de la Mouchère.

The winery don't shy away from the use of new oak and any overtly woody character is generally well balanced by ripe fruit. The Chardonnays range from citrus driven and fresher at the villages level all the way to ripe, tropical and creamy at the Grand Cru level. The reds are lighter and more elegant than they used to be with Henri's son Guillaume preferring a less extracted style of Pinot Noir.
