Founded in the 1920s, Etienne Sauzet is a family-run domaine known for producing some of the finest white wines in Burgundy. Its current vineyard area in the Côte de Beaune covers approximately nine hectares entirely dedicated to Chardonnay. This release is the domaine’s Montrachet Grand Cru 2001, a vintage that produced relatively crisp wines with excellent mineral definition.
94 Vinous
(four of seven barrels were new) Crystallized yellow fruits on the nose. Dense, sweet and very ripe; rich, chewy, large-scaled and powerful. Still an infant, but the wine's solidity and length are impressive. This has the structure of a red wine. Very strong juice, finishing with some youthful oakiness. The alcohol here is no higher than that of the Chevalier or Batard, notes Boudot, but this seems even more dense.Stephen Tanzer1st September 2003
