The 1991 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Montrachet Grand Cru is a sought-after Burgundy Chardonnay from this esteemed producer. This vintage showcases a bright golden hue, with toasty notes reminiscent of freshly baked bread, complemented by a distinct minerality. Acidity is notable, balancing flavours of citrus, almond and subtle hints of creaminess. Over time, it reveals an intricate profile, marked by a long, persistent finish. Domaine de la Romanée-Conti is recognised for its meticulous vineyard practices, with DRC`s holdings in Montrachet covering just 0.67 hectares, containing some of Burgundy’s oldest vines.

The 1991 Montrachet is a gorgeous wine that captures an elusive state where it is both mature and yet still offers a good deal of freshness for its age. Creamy and ample in feel, with terrific resonance, the 1991 is superb. Dried herb, hazelnut, orange peel and vanillin are some of the many strands of nuance that develop over time. More than anything else, it is the interplay or gently evolved notes from bottle age and the wine’s underlying energy that make for a fabulous drinking experience. Tasted at the Los Angeles DRC Montrachet vertical.
