Descendientes de J Palacios Moncerbal 2013 is a Mencía-dominant red wine from the Corullón district of Bierzo in Spain. This wine is sourced from a single vineyard characterised by steep slopes of slate and quartz, where the vines are farmed according to strict biodynamic principles. The 2013 vintage was cooler and more Atlantic in style, resulting in a wine of immense aromatic lift and vertical structure. The nose offers profound notes of pomegranate, blood orange and wet stones, with a distinct floral perfume of violets. On the palate, the wine is light-bodied but intensely concentrated, driven by a sharp acidity and a stony minerality that reflects its high-altitude terroir.

Saturated ruby. Expansive aromas of fresh red and dark berries, Asian spices, incense and woodsmoke, with a mineral nuance emerging with aeration. Juicy, seamless and focused on the palate, offering gently sweet raspberry, boysenberry and rose pastille flavors that deepen and spread out on the back half. Shows excellent concentration but comes off as graceful and precise, finishing with superb thrust and repeating floral character; silky tannins add grip.Josh Raynolds1st January 2016

Blackcurrant and menthol nose, liquorice too. Impressively different to the Las Lamas – much more forthright flavour, and something verging on the confected. (RH)
