Monbrison 2005 is a full-bodied, Cabernet-Sauvignon-based red wine from the Margaux appellation of Bordeaux. While Château Monbrison is classified as a Cru Bourgeois property, the quality of the wines under the astute management of Laurent Vonderheyden really could warrant a promotion to a classified growth. These are classic Margaux clarets, with seductive perfume, richness of fruit and fine, supple structure. "Sweet, rich, slightly oaky on the nose. Very well put together with brisk fruit and lovely ripe tannins with some velvet but LOTS of refreshment value. No inky or stringiness. Lovely complete fresh wine with real vivacity and density. Classic Margaux. Dry rather than lush finish. Two very different samples tasted. This note refers to the sample tasted blind.. The other sample tasted open seemed slightly oaky on the nose and slack on the palate." Jancis Robinson, 2006

- Good medium ruby. High-toned aromas of boysenberry and violet. Solid, meaty and a bit chunky, with very good sweetness of fruit. More pliant than many recent vintages of this Margaux. Finishes with firm tannins and notes of black fruits and licorice.
