Meursault Les Vireuils Benjamin Leroux 2014 is a white Chardonnay from the high-altitude `terres blanches` soils above the village. These white soils are abundant in limestone, which imparts a sharp mineral focus to the wine. Benjamin Leroux utilises whole-cluster pressing and ambient yeast fermentation, followed by 15 months of ageing in 300-litre barrels. The wine shows a profile of citrus zest and wet stone, with a lean and energetic mouthfeel. Unlike the broader style of Meursault, Les Vireuils is known for its tension and verticality. The 2014 vintage is highly regarded for white Burgundy, providing the acidity necessary to highlight the stony terroir of this specific site.
Vinous
Pale yellow. Lively aromas and flavors of lemon and orange zest, ginger and minerals. An impression of sweetness (actually less than 1.5 g/l r.s., according to Leroux) is nicely leavened by lively citric cut. This well-balanced, firmly structured wine finishes juicy and long.
