Based in Meursault, Domaine Matrot is a family-owned property currently run by sisters Elsa and Adèle. The estate produces both red and white Burgundy, including a Bourgogne Aligoté. This release comes from the Domaine’s plot in the Meursault Premier Cru Les Perrières, where the average age of the vines is 60 years. 1998 was a good vintage for Chardonnay, producing fragrant and opulent wines.

Aromas of orange peel and spicy oak. Fresh and brisk in the mouth, though currently dominated by its structure. Has very good cut and length, but the finish shows a slight dryness. The Perrieres, says Matrot, was saved in '98 by its minerally terroir. Needs time in bottle; this may well be one of those '98s that provides a pleasant surprise several years down the road.Stephen Tanzer1st September 2000

Matrot's slightly golden colored 1998 Meursault Perrieres displays a dried honey-scented nose. This flavorful stone, gravel, and mineral-flavored wine has intensity, focus, and excellent persistence, yet lacks harmony. Notes of tangy grapefruit can be found throughout its character and finish. At the same time, it displays traits of a mature wine and those of a youthful, unformed, disjointed one. Anticipated maturity: now-2005+.
