Meursault Les Perrières Henri Boillot 2017 is a Premier Cru white wine from the village of Meursault in Burgundy. This wine is crafted from Chardonnay grapes grown in a small parcel of the Les Perrières vineyard, well-known for its exceptional limestone soil that contributes to its mineral expression. The nose reveals aromas of lemon zest, green apple and hints of flint. The palate displays a firm structure with a precise balance between fruit depth and minerality.
Vinous
Pale, bright yellow. Reticent, very pure scents of underripe pineapple, white peach and crushed stone. Like the previous Meursault samples, this boasts lovely purity and suavity; it verges on opulent while delivering an almost weightless impression. Quite closed today and not revealing its inherent personality but its acidity and saline minerality are already perfectly integrated. The longest of these 2017s to this point, but this backward Perrières will need at least a few years in bottle to display its minerality.Stephen Tanzer1st September 2018

Henri Boillot

Father and Son

In some ways, Henri Boillot has one foot in the past and one in the present. His family domaine, which he manages with his son Guillaume, has a history dating back to the 1880s, but the wines produced from their Meursault-based winery are undeniably modern, approachable and ranked among some of the very best in the region. Alongside operating a highly successful négociant business, the Boillot family own around 14 hectares of vineyards in the Côte de Beaune including a Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru monopole in the form of Clos de la Mouchère.

The winery don't shy away from the use of new oak and any overtly woody character is generally well balanced by ripe fruit. The Chardonnays range from citrus driven and fresher at the villages level all the way to ripe, tropical and creamy at the Grand Cru level. The reds are lighter and more elegant than they used to be with Henri's son Guillaume preferring a less extracted style of Pinot Noir.
