Domaine Michel Bouzereau Meursault Genevrières 2017 is a Premier Cru white Burgundy from the Meursault appellation. This bottling reflects the rocky, limestone-heavy soils of the upper Genevrières slope through a profile of lemon oil, white flowers and flinty smoke. Jean-Baptiste Bouzereau’s meticulous cellar work involving long pressings and minimal batonnage preserves a racy tension that counters the natural richness of the fruit. The 2017 shows a concentrated palate with a silky texture and a laser-like acidity that ensures remarkable longevity. Now entering its prime drinking window, it displays developed notes of toasted hazelnut and beeswax while maintaining a vibrant, mineral-driven finish.

The 2017 Meursault Les Genevrières 1er Cru is a wine that I never tasted in barrel, though I wish I had! It has a well-defined, slightly creamy nose, hints of praline and salted caramel in the background, and mineralité in the driving seat. The terroir really comes through thanks to the supremely well judged acidity and beautifully managed new oak. A very harmonious and poised finish lingers temptingly in the mouth. Not a brash Meursault by any stretch, but self-aware of its class. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting in Savigny-lès-Beaune. Neal Martin1st August 2021
