Comtes Lafon Meursault Genevrières 2021 is a medium-bodied Burgundy white wine from the Premier Cru climat of Les Genevrières in the Meursault appellation of the Côte de Beaune. With a rich history that goes back to the 1860s, Domaine des Comtes Lafon is a well-established wine producer based in Meursault. The estate is currently managed by fourth-generation family member Dominique Lafon, who inherited the winery from his father Réné in the mid-1980s. "A cool, pure and elegant array of exotic tea, lavender, lemon rind and green apple scents displays a wisp of star anise. The wonderfully refined and almost delicate yet exceptionally punchy medium-weight flavours coat the palate with sappy dry extract that also serves to buffer the moderately firm acid backbone on the focused, complex and beautifully persistent finish where a hint of bitter lemon arises. This pungently stony effort is strikingly good and absolutely worth your interest." Burghound, 2023
Vinous
The 2021 Meursault Les Genevrières 1er Cru is reduced to a measly 450 bottles this year, a barrel and a half, due to this vineyard being one of the earliest ripening and then the frost impact. It has a beguiling, very pure and slightly candied bouquet with orange zest, mandarin and touches of crushed stone. The wood will need some time to assimilate. The palate is well-balanced, elegant and delicate, lemon zest and touches of lime on the effervescent finish. Wonderful, but so little! Neal Martin5th January 2023

A Singular Vision

Domaine des Comtes Lafon is widely considered to produce some of the world's greatest Chardonnay. Currently managed by fourth generation family member Dominique Lafon, who inherited the winery from his father René in the mid 1980s, Comtes Lafon own and source fruit from many of the greatest cru in the region - including Charmes, Clos de la Barre and Montrachet.

Dominique pursued a policy of converting all vineyards under Comtes Lafon's stewardship over to traditional farming methods - moving first to fully organic in 1995 and on to biodynamic in 1998. The average age of vines is around 40 years with yields kept low to ensure quality. Alongside his world class Chardonnay, Dominique also produces Premier Cru Volnay in limited quantities - a relatively new addition to the winery's portfolio, they are swiftly gaining a cult following.
