Domaine des Comtes Lafon is a leading wine producer based in Meursault, where it has holdings in some of the most prestigious vineyards. The estate is currently led by fourth generation family member Dominique Lafon, who inherited the winery from his father in the mid-1980s. This release comes from the Premier Cru ‘Les Genevrières’, where the domaine owns a 0.55-hectare plot. The 2018 vintage in Burgundy marked an exceptional year, witnessing one of the most substantial harvests in recent times.

The 2018 Meursault Genevrières 1er Cru sports a small reduction on the nose, though there is definitely plenty of fruit underneath, touches of grilled walnut and smoke. Subtle, yet convincing. The palate is well-balanced with fine-boned structure, focused and saline, almost Puligny-like towards the finish. This is a classy offering that it does require some bottle age to manifest more personality. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 white tasting. Neal Martin22nd November 2022

A Singular Vision

Domaine des Comtes Lafon is widely considered to produce some of the world's greatest Chardonnay. Currently managed by fourth generation family member Dominique Lafon, who inherited the winery from his father René in the mid 1980s, Comtes Lafon own and source fruit from many of the greatest cru in the region - including Charmes, Clos de la Barre and Montrachet.

Dominique pursued a policy of converting all vineyards under Comtes Lafon's stewardship over to traditional farming methods - moving first to fully organic in 1995 and on to biodynamic in 1998. The average age of vines is around 40 years with yields kept low to ensure quality. Alongside his world class Chardonnay, Dominique also produces Premier Cru Volnay in limited quantities - a relatively new addition to the winery's portfolio, they are swiftly gaining a cult following.
