Meursault Genevrieres Bouchard 2017 is a Premier Cru white Burgundy from the prestigious Bouchard Père & Fils estate. This wine is crafted exclusively from Chardonnay grapes sourced from the Genevrières vineyard, renowned for its rich, clay-limestone soils, which profoundly shape the wine’s character. The 2017 vintage is recognised for its balance and purity, offering a bright expression of citrus and stone fruit alongside a firm mineral backbone. Bouchard Père & Fils boasts a history dating back to 1731, making it one of the oldest wine houses in Burgundy, a testament to its enduring commitment to quality and tradition.

The 2017 Meursault Les Genevrières 1er Cru was poured from jeroboam. It has a cool and almost Chablis-like bouquet with light sea spray and algae-like scents. The palate is "cool" with a touch of pepperiness on the entry, a fine bead of acidity, cohesive and demonstrating enticing petrolly notes towards the finish. Drinking beautifully right now. Youthfully reticent aromas of crisp Anjou pear, blanched almonds, Meyer lemon and hints of praline introduce the 2017 Meursault 1er Cru Genevrières, a medium to full-bodied, deep and tensile wine that's impressively concentrated and nicely defined. This confirms its strong showing from barrel; indeed, the wine has gained in tension since I tasted it in December. While it's a little shut down after its recent bottling, it should drink very well with a bit of bottle age.William Kelley30th April 2019

Timeless legacy in Burgundy’s heart

Established in 1731, Maison Bouchard Père & Fils is one of the oldest and largest wine estates in the Côte d’Or. In 1995, the estate was acquired by the Henriot family, whose portfolio also includes William Fèvre, Beaux Frères, Château de Poncié and Champagne Henriot. Bouchard boasts vineyard holdings totalling approximately 130 hectares, including 74ha of Premiers Crus and 12ha of Grand Crus, with as many as 450 different individual plots. While the maison’s vast mosaic of holdings are weighted towards the Côte de Beaune, the Côte de Nuits is also a major focus.

The maison’s original vineyard was purchased by Joseph Bouchard in Volnay Les Caillerets in 1775. Not long after Beaune Grèves Vigne de l’Enfant Jesus followed. Now one of four Bouchard monopole vineyards, Beaune Grèves Vignes de l’Enfant Jésus was once owned by the Carmelite order of nuns and is the source of Bouchard’s flagship wine. Bouchard’s extensive suite of wines is produced and aged at the state-of-the-art, gravity-fed Cuverie Saint Vincent in Savigny-lès-Beaune. Once bottled, the wines are stored beneath the historic Château de Beaune, built in the 15th century by King Louis XI and purchased by Bernard Bouchard in 1820.

With almost 300 years of savoir-faire, from its unrivalled multiplicity of terroirs, Bouchard stands as one of the most eminent names in Burgundy winemaking.
