Antoine Jobard joined his father François at the family’s Domaine in 2002, and in 2007, he assumed full responsibility after his father`s retirement. Carrying on the family`s legacy of excellence, Antoine crafts timeless Meursault wines that embody the Domaine’s style and tradition. With a respectful nod to the past and a touch of his own artistry, he leaves his distinctive mark on this prestigious estate. This particular release comes from the Premier Cru `Genevrières`, where Jobards owns a tiny parcel.

(still in cuve): Very closed on the nose, hinting at clove and wet stone (Jobard notes that this wine was quite reserved from the very beginning). Less fruity than the Poruzots but silky and glyceral too, with orange, spice and stone flavors complicated by nut oils and citrus peel. I love the combination of cut and fleshiness. All the elements come together beautifully in Jobard’s 2010 Meursault Genevrieres. Brisk saline notes buffer a core of white stone fruit, flowers and pears in this highly nuanced, precise Meursault. A finely sculpted jewel of a wine, the Genevrieres is gorgeous today, but it needs time to reveal the full breadth of its compelling pedigree. From a textural standpoint alone, it is fabulous. Anticipated maturity: 2015+.

Over the last few years Antoine Jobard’s wines seem to have acquired quite a bit of finesse they didn’t always have in the past. Jobard started harvesting on September 19 and found he had to bring in the fruit quickly, as bad weather was approaching. The long, drawn-out flowering took three weeks as opposed to 4-5 days when conditions are ideal, taking along with it around 30% of the total production, although some sites were hit even harder. At the time of my visit, all of the 2010s were in bottle, except for the Poruzots and the Genevrieres, which I tasted from tank. So far, the 2011s look promising. In 2011, the range will include a new wine, the Puligny-Montrachet premier cru Champ Gain. In 2012, Jobard will add a bottling from the St. Aubin premier cru Sur le Sentier du Clou.
