The Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey estate was formed in 2001 when Pierre-Yves Colin and his wife Caroline Morey – both from Burgundy winemaking families – joined forces. Today they produce wines from approximately 13 hectares of vineyards, situated in the villages of Saint-Aubin, Chassagne-Montrachet, Santenay, Puligny-Montrachet and Meursault, where this Premier Cru release comes from. The 2016 vintage reveals aromas of green apples, grapefruit, white flowers and some flint. On the palate, the wine has a perfect weight and silky texture, complemented by a fine acid structure. Bravo.
Vinous
(Colin has just a single one-year-old 500-liter barrel of this juice): Ripe but very reticent nose hints at green apple. Tactile, peppery, dry and classic, conveying a dusty impression of extract. Tight, primary flavors of peach and white peach show a savory, sappy quality. Here's a young 2016 that might be compared to a 2010. This still needs further élevage to stretch out, and lose some of its CO2.Stephen Tanzer1st September 2017

Pierre-Yves Colin purchases the grapes that produced his 2016 Meursault 1er Cru Charmes, but he farms the parcel himself. And it's a success in this challenging vintage, exhibiting dramatic aromas of peach and preserved citrus, framed by nutty new oak. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, chewy and concentrated, with good depth and substance. It's not as elegant as the Genevrières, but it's similarly promising.William Kelley29th June 2018

Minimalist approach to Burgundy wines

Established in Chassagne-Montrachet in 2001 through the collaboration of Pierre-Yves Colin and his wife Caroline Morey (both hailing from historic Burgundy winemaking families) the Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey estate comprises approximately 13 hectares of vineyards across the appellations Saint-Aubin, Chassagne-Montrachet, Santenay, Puligny-Montrachet, and Meursault.

Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey is the eldest son of St-Aubin winemaker Marc Colin. Since leaving his family domaine in 2005 to launch his own winery, Pierre-Yves has become one of the most-lauded winemakers on the Côte d'Or. His approach is very much minimal-interventionist: no batonnage for whites; minimal racking and extended élévage across the board.

Pierre-Yves’ vineyard holdings are centred on the Côte de Beaune appellation of St-Aubin (including the Premiers Crus of Chatèniere, Champlots and Remilly) and Chassagne-Montrachet (including the Premiers Crus of Chenevottes and Caillerets).

Pierre-Yves’ cellar is shared with his wife, Caroline Morey. The daughter of Jean-Marc Morey, whose family has cultivated vines in Chassagne since the 16th century, Caroline created her own domaine in 2014.
