Matarocchio is 100% Cabernet Franc from the famed Guado al Tasso estate. The 2015 vintage was exceptional in Tuscany and this is a stunning release. It is certainly a long-term cellar prospect but, nonetheless, exhibits wonderful notes of deep dark fruit, bitter chocolate, grilled herbs and pipe tobacco. The balance is impeccable and the finish sublime.

The 2015 Matarocchio, 100% Cabernet Franc, offers a breathtaking expression of the textural creaminess and radiance that makes the best wines from Bolgheri so alluring. Spice, truffle, espresso, mocha and raspberry jam give the 2015 a decidedly exotic feel. The explosive energy and aromatic intensity of Franc are on full display. The 2015 is a sumptuous, head-turning wine that will offer thrilling drinking, especially in a few years, when it has shed some of its baby fat. Antonio Galloni1st March 2019

An Antinori Icon

While technically a wine rather than a winery, Marchesi Antinori's flagship red wine, Supertuscan Tignanello, has become an icon in its own right. Produced from the Tignanello estate, this wine is one of Italy’s most recognized and celebrated fine wines. Tignanello is a blend of mostly Sangiovese wines with lesser parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, showcasing the Antinori family's mastery in winemaking.

Situated in the heart of Chianti Classico, in the gently rolling hillsides between the Greve and Pesa river valleys, the Tenuta Tignanello vineyard produces these influential wines. Tignanello was the first Sangiovese to be aged in barriques, the first contemporary red wine blended with untraditional varieties (specifically Cabernet), and one of the first red wines in the Chianti Classico region not to use white grapes. This innovation has made it a modern red wine that stands out among its peers.

The Antinori estate also produces a superb Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon Grappa, a full-bodied Bordeaux-style red called Guado al Tasso, and delicate yet refined white wines from Castello della Sala, adding to its portfolio of iconic wines. The legacy of the Antinori family is evident in every bottle of these exceptional Italian wines.
