Masseto 2022 is a prestigious Tuscany red wine crafted exclusively from Merlot grapes, sourced from a single vineyard situated in the Bolgheri DOC. The vineyard`s unique terroir, characterised by its clay and limestone soils, imparts distinct characteristics to the wine. Masseto is known for its meticulous production process, with 24 months of ageing in 100% new oak barrels. Owned by the Frescobaldi family since the 1980s, this estate has a rich heritage, contributing significantly to Italy`s wine landscape while maintaining high-quality standards. The 2022 is available here in magnum.

Cocoa bean, campfire, creamy raspberry fruits, fragrant and concentrated, plenty of grilled coffee beans and orange peel, complex, concentrated, nuanced, great quality. 24 months ageing in 100% new oak, then 12 months in bottle before release. The 2022 Masseto is elegant and polished, just as it was when I first tasted it a few months ago. Bright red-toned fruit, blood orange, spice, menthol and cinnamon all meld together nicely in the glass. The lighter style of the year is evident, but there are no hard edges or awkward contours. The 2022 is a super-refined Masseto. Antonio Galloni26th June 2025

A Single Vineyard Super Tuscan

A stand-out name on the Tuscan wine scene, the wines of Masseto are produced from vines first planted in the 1980s. The estate is situated on Italy’s Tuscan Coast, on a magical hillside overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea near the small village of Bolgheri. 'Masseto' was named after the rock-hard clusters of blue clay known as ‘massi’ that form on the vineyard’s surface. Originally the brainchild of Lodovico Antinori, the Masseto estate has been owned by the prestigious Tuscan Frescobaldi family since 2005.

In the words of Estate Director, Axel Heinz, 'At Masseto, we try to do as little as possible to the wines. Our goal is simply to capture the essence of nature and take it to the highest level. This is about an amazing, very challenging, vineyard and wine made with great simplicity. We have tanks. We have barrels. We have gravity flow. And we have people who care about the wine. That’s it. That’s our philosophy.'
