Based in Marsannay-la-Côte, Sylvain Pataille is a highly regarded wine producer who built up his domaine from scratch. He set up his own label in 1999, while still working at a winemaking laboratory in Beaune. Today Sylvain owns 15 hectares of organic certified vineyards, all situated within the Marsannay appellation. This cuvée comes from Clos du Roy, a single vineyard situated just north of the border with Marsannay. The wine has a pronounced floral character, complemented by notes of red fruit and firm tannins.

2.6 ha. Iron-rich clay on degraded limestone. Racked two days ago. Cask sample.
Light and sweet. Pure pleasure. Juicy par excellence! A bit reduced at the moment but there is the mineral grip well in evidence. (JR)Jancis Robinson9th October 2020

Vinous
The 2019 Marsannay Clos du Roy was racked a couple of weeks before my visit. It has an opulent bouquet with ripe red cherries, crushed strawberry and light Indian ink aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with quite chewy tannins, very structured and dense, although at the moment it does not convey the same finesse as some of Pataille’s other cuvées.
