The 2005 Château Marquis d`Alesme Becker is a red Bordeaux from the Margaux region, classified as a Third Growth in the 1855 classification. The estate spans 15 hectares, benefiting from a terroir of gravelly soils on the plateaus and clay-limestone nearer to the Gironde estuary. The 2005 vintage is noted for its concentration and structure. This wine presents aromas of dark fruit, tobacco and hints of spice, while the palate reveals a full body with integrated tannins. Established in 1780, the estate prioritises traditional winemaking methods to maintain its distinct character.

The 2005 Marquis d'Alesme Becker has a slightly rustic nose of loamy red berry fruit, dried blood and sandalwood. It does not quite have the finesse of more recent vintages. Likewise, the palate is broad-shouldered, stocky and a bit rough around the edges, yet I admire its weight and density. A few more years in bottle should see it develop into a fine, if rugged, Margaux. Neal Martin26th January 2023

A pleasant, picnic-styled 2005, this wine offers sweet cherry and currant fruit, a medium ruby/purple color, moderate body, light tannin, and a short finish ... especially for the vintage. - Robert M. Parker, Jr.

Fresh and lively on the nose – if a little bit simple at present. Lots of acidity and lift – far from heavy with a little bit of oak influence still evident. Very dry finish. Vibrant. Great lift. The aerien, ballet-dancer school of Margaux. (JR)
