Duty Charges

Below is a summary of the new duty charges per bottle as of February 2026. Please note that these vary depending on the ABV and are subject to change. Please get in touch if you require more information:

Transparent Billing and Rate Calculations

Annual Billing: Clients are invoiced annually based on the wines stored in the preceding year.
Case Equivalents: A case is defined as 9 litres of wine (typically twelve 750ml bottles), ensuring clarity in pricing.
Pro-Rata Charges: Storage fees are charged on a per-bottle basis, and wines stored for part of a month will be billed accordingly.

How to Use Our Bonded Storage

Purchase en primeur or under-bond wines from Hedonism Wines.
Automatically enjoy twelve months of free storage at our bonded storage when you open your storage account.
After twelve months, your storage will continue at the rates outlined above, with quarterly invoicing.
When you are ready to receive your wines, simply request delivery. Most orders are fulfilled within 3-4 working days.

The Château Margaux 1970 is a mature expression of this celebrated Margaux First Growth. The 1970 vintage was defined by a large, even crop, resulting in wines that were initially somewhat understated but have developed gracefully in bottle. This expression is a blend primarily of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, offering a finely aged, fragrant bouquet of dried rose petals, cigar box, truffle and blackcurrant pastille. The palate is fully mature and refined, showcasing the estate`s signature elegance, with seamless tannins and a medium-bodied structure that retains a charming complexity and sustained length.

The 1970 Château Margaux was born during a weak period for the estate and it has long been an underperforming wine. It`s not terrible, but it unquestionably does fall a long way short of what you would expect from a First Growth. It has a one-dimensional nose with rather lifeless tar and cedar scents. The palate is showing a touch of volatility on the entry with charred, dry tannins that lead down towards a foursquare finish, which can best be described as "dull". Tasted June 2015. - Neal Martin

A Legacy of Fine Wine

Château Margaux is one of the most striking constructions in the Bordeaux appellation, a large grand house built in the early 18th century on an estate that has been producing fine wine for hundreds of years, with a history dating back to the 12th century Bordeaux wine tradition. Quality was known to fluctuate in the first half of the 20th century, but that period of inconsistency ended with the arrival of wunderkind Paul Pontallier, a talented winemaker who worked nearly 35 vintages and produced some of the greatest wines in living memory. Paul passed on in 2016, and the team is now led by Philippe Bascaules and Sebastien Vergne, with consultancy from Eric Boissenot.

82 hectares are dedicated to red wine vines, with around 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, and 5% Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Château Margaux produces around 30,000 cases of wine annually, with the Grand Vin accounting for around 35% of that total. Among their celebrated wines is Pavillon Rouge, the second wine of the estate, which stands as a testament to the estate's commitment to quality.

In addition to their renowned red wines, Château Margaux also produces a limited quantity of Sauvignon Blanc, adding another layer to their esteemed collection of Margaux wines. This white wine complements their offerings and demonstrates the estate’s versatility.
