The Marcassin Marcassin Vineyard Chardonnay 1997 is a single-vineyard white wine from a celebrated Californian estate, founded by noted winemaker Helen Turley. Sourced exclusively from their 10-acre vineyard on the Sonoma Coast, this vintage benefits from the cool maritime climate. The grapes undergo whole-cluster pressing and natural fermentation before a lengthy maturation period in new French oak barrels. The wine showcases a profile of green apple, citrus and subtle oak, reflecting the meticulous farming practices and low yields emblematic of the producer’s philosophy.

Very complex nose hints at yellow plum, crystallized pineapple, coconut, clove, honey and nut skin. Very dense and very dry, with subtle flavor and a dusty impression of extract suffusing the entire palate. Not showing the sheer personality of the '96 at a similar stage, but this very rich, long wine is still quite closed.Stephen Tanzer1st May 2001
