The Marcassin Blue Slide Ridge Pinot Noir 1999 offers a complex profile characterised by ripe black cherry, blackberry and subtle herbal notes. There are hints of rose petal and an earthy undertone that contribute to its depth. The mouthfeel is rich, showcasing a velvety texture with structured tannins that frame the wine well. Marcassin, founded by celebrated winemaker Helen Turley, is known for its small-scale, high-quality production, focusing on meticulous vineyard practices.

Vinous
Medium red. Superripe, rather advanced aromas of raspberry, chocolate, mocha, smoked meat and underbrush. At once thick and penetrating, with complex flavors of raspberry, strawberry, minerals, smoke and spices framed by bright acids. Finishes dense, powerful and long. This held up reasonably well in the glass, but it's far more evolved than a 1999 pinot noir should be today.Stephen Tanzer1st May 2004
