Based in Dezize-lès-Maranges, Bachelet-Monnot is a relatively new wine producer, launched in 2005 by Marc and Alexandre Bachelet. The two brothers and their team cultivate a mix of family-owned and leased vineyards, across 20 different appellations. Their ‘La Fussière Rouge’ 2020 hails from one of the best premier crus in the Maranges appellation – a best-kept secret in Burgundy. Expect a vibrant red wine, with ripe red berries and peppery accents.
Vinous
The 2020 Maranges La Fussières 1er Cru Rouge, which contains slightly less whole bunch than the Village, has a more austere, well-defined, stony bouquet featuring dark berry fruit and touches of black tea. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red berry fruit and slightly granular in texture, leading to a cohesive, sustained finish. Very classy, and I reckon this should be quite approachable thanks to its pliancy. Neal Martin1st December 2021

Rising Stars

Founded by rising stars Marc and Alexandre Bachelet in 2005, Domaine Bachelet Monnot manage 10 hectares of vines in the communes in Maranges, Santenay and Puligny-Montrachet. The focus is on traditional techniques, terroir-led winemaking - 50% new oak is used for Grand Cru wines, but employed to a lesser extent for Premier Cru and Village-level wines.

Key vineyards for Bachelet Monnot in Maranges are La Fussière, which they produce in both red and white, and Clos de la Boutière. In Puligny-Montrachet, Marc and Alexandre produce Premier Crus Les Referts and Folatières along with Grand Crus Bienvenues-Bâtard Montrachet and Bâtard-Montrachet.
