Malescot-St -Exupéry 2005 is a full-bodied, Cabernet Sauvignon-based red wine from the Margaux appellation of Bordeaux. Château Malescot-St-Exupéry is a Third Growth Margaux property that has been owned by the Zuger family since the 1950s. The estate includes 23 hectares under vine and the best vineyards share the same deep, grave soils as their neighbour Château Margaux. "Dark ruby in colour, slight pinking on the edges but still very much in the zone of a young wine visually. Serious stuff, has the core of 2005 in terms of energy and power, and is still young, with dense fruits, a zip of minerality and lift, and remains juicy on the finish. Liquorice, cigar box, raspberry, white pepper and sage spice. This is a great example of the vintage, and at a great moment to drink but going absolutely nowhere. A special occasion wine. 80% new oak." Jane Anson, 2022

Vinous
(13.8% natural alcohol) Bright ruby-red. Superripe berry and chocolate aromas, with a whiff of surmaturite Fat, sweet and large-scaled, offering extraordinary volume and an almost syrupy thickness leavened by surprisingly sound acidity. This saturates the entire mouth yet manages to avoid coming off as heavy. Finishes very long and sweet, with thoroughly integrated tannins. The best vintage since 1961, notes Jean-Luc Zuger. This is the kind of wine I like. He advises early drinkers to give this 2005 about four hours in a decanter.
