The 2014 Mâcon-Pierreclos Tris de Chavigne from Guffens-Heynen is a single-vineyard dry Chardonnay from the Mâcon-Pierreclos appellation. Jean-Marie Guffens-Heynen holds a small, highly-regarded plot within this vineyard, from which the grapes for this cuvée are sourced. The 2014 vintage in the Mâconnais was a balanced year, producing wines with a perfect combination of fruit ripeness and acidity. This expression presents a profile of ripe stone fruit, citrus and a creamy texture, with a strong mineral backbone.

(this selection of the best grapes also included fruit picked at the beginning, middle and end of the harvest; the alcoholic fermentation lasted until February of 2015): Bright yellow. Ripe peach, lemon and nutty, spicy oak on the nose; a bit more exotic and less floral than the Chavigne. Fat, very ripe and dry, with a deep leesy quality contributing to the wine's concentration and tactile character. Thick with extract and lightly saline in the middle palate and on the long, resounding back end. Still youthfully bound-up but there's nothing hard or dry about this very rich wine.Stephen Tanzer1st October 2016
