Lynch-Bages 1990 is a red Bordeaux blend from the Pauillac appellation. The estate sits on a plateau of deep gravel, which provides the excellent drainage necessary for the Cabernet Sauvignon to achieve optimal ripening. The 1990 growing season offered conditions for profound concentration, resulting in a wine of immense power and structural depth. It shows tertiary notes of cedar, tobacco, leather and blackcurrant, with tannins that have integrated into a seamless, velvety texture. This wine remains a benchmark for the estate’s ability to balance ripeness with elegance.

The 1990 Lynch Bages can be an astounding Pauillac and although this was impressive, it was just a step off the best I have tried. Graphite-infused black fruit, very harmonious and powerful, with an incongruous background scent of Wellington boot. The palate is supremely well balanced, slightly grainy in texture, with quite firm tannins and cedar and tobacco-infused black fruit on the finish. Wonderful. Tasted single blind at the 1990 Bordeaux dinner at Medlar. Neal Martin2nd December 2025

The Modern Pauillac

Situated in the celebrated Pauillac appellation in Bordeaux, Château Lynch Bages uses around 60% of its 100 hectares to produce its first wine (a 5th growth in the 1855 classification) in addition to producing a second red, Echo de Lynch Bages. These wines display superb Cabernet Sauvignon character, together with smaller percentages of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot making up the blend. A wonderful example of the power and elegance of truly great Pauillac: gloriously supple and smooth with a tannic backbone.

A white wine, known as Blanc de Lynch Bages, is also produced in very small quantities. Made from an elegant blend of the classic white Bordeaux varietals, Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and Muscadelle, the resulting wines display exhilarating freshness and dried apricot complexity.
