With a rich history that goes back to 1749, Château Lynch-Bages has been owned by the Cazes family since 1939. Situated on the Bages plateau, overlooking the Gironde estuary, the estate comprises 90 hectares of vineyards, 75% of which are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon. The 1985 is a wonderfully mature expression with roasted herbal notes mingling with blackcurrant and sweet cherry character.

The 1985 Lynch-Bages has long been one of my favorite vintages from this decade. The bouquet is very elegant—one of the best I have encountered—with mint and cassis aromas on the nose along with pencil shavings joining the chorus line with time. The palate is medium-bodied with plenty of freshness, salinity and lovely symmetry on the finish. This is superb. Tasted at the WIMPS X-mas lunch at La Trompette.Neal Martin25th March 2025

Deep crimson with evolution. Note of herbaceousness (practically the first in the entire tasting!) Big and bold and chunky on the palate – no shortage of alcohol – but not much finesse. (JR)

The Modern Pauillac

Situated in the celebrated Pauillac appellation in Bordeaux, Château Lynch Bages uses around 60% of its 100 hectares to produce its first wine (a 5th growth in the 1855 classification) in addition to producing a second red, Echo de Lynch Bages. These wines display superb Cabernet Sauvignon character, together with smaller percentages of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot making up the blend. A wonderful example of the power and elegance of truly great Pauillac: gloriously supple and smooth with a tannic backbone.

A white wine, known as Blanc de Lynch Bages, is also produced in very small quantities. Made from an elegant blend of the classic white Bordeaux varietals, Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and Muscadelle, the resulting wines display exhilarating freshness and dried apricot complexity.
