Luce was the first wine from Montalcino to blend Sangiovese with Merlot. The 2016 vintage possesses a rich, deep colour coupled with an aromatic bouquet of fresh fruit and elegant tannins. This is a succulent wine that offers precise balance of fruit, density and elegance.

An extremely classic Brunello with its sour cherry, rosemary, sage and underbrush character on the attack, hugely savoury, mouthwatering and moreish, with delicacy and juice. As it opens, leather, tobacco, olive, rose petal and a sweeter raspberry puree appear. Love it. Aged in Slovenian oak barrels. First released in March 2021, second tasting here.Jane Anson6th October 2021

The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Luce from Frescobaldi lifts up with a heady display of medicinal cherries, cinnamon and cloves with a dusting of cedar and white smoke. It’s silky and seamless, coasting effortlessly across the palate with ease, while gaining tactile grip as notes of tart raspberry and minerals slowly settle in. There’s ample acidity to balance this large-scaled effort, as it unabashedly tapers off to a black currant-cocoa-mocha-coffee mixture throughout the structured finale. The 2016 Luce della Vite had me right up until the finish, where it unfortunately leaves a harsh impression of wood instead of fruit.Eric Guido1st November 2020
