Produced solely in the finest vintages, Cristal is the flagship of Louis Roederer. The 2012 is a blend of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay with rich and complex aromas of lemon zest, pollen, hazelnut and vanilla. The palate is concentrated and shows great tension and aromatic precision. Mouth-coating, silky and beautifully long.
97 Robert Parker
Aromas of clear honey, crisp green orchard fruit, white peach, pastry cream and dried white flowers introduce the 2012 Cristal, a full-bodied, concentrated and powerful wine that`s built for the cellar. Broader, more textural and more muscular than the 2008 Cristal, with seemingly even greater reserves of structuring dry extract, the 2012 is incisive and searingly chalky. This is the first Cristal produced exclusively from organically farmed fruit, and it marks the opening of a new chapter for Louis Roderer. The blend is 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay, vinified without malolactic fermentation and disgorged with 7.5 grams per liter dosage. Chef de Caves Jean-Baptiste Lecaillon has once again excelled himself. — William Kelley, 12th December 2019

I thought the 2012s would be a good place to start this lunch, as the wines have always been quite open and seductive. That is very much the case today. The 2012 Cristal is quite delicate and floral, with hints of pear and white flowers that add considerable allure. This is a young Cristal still in its infant stage, but it’s a Champagne that can be enjoyed now. — Antonio Galloni, 1st November 2024

Disgorged in 2019, dosage 7.5 g/l. 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay, 32% of the cuvée is fermented in oak. Nine years spent on the lees. Amazingly challenging year with all the viticultural hazards possible, but a limited yield has brought concentration. First year Cristal was all organic.Seems quite broad compared with the precision of the 2013 but has a wonderful undertow. It’s a little bit of a brute. The 2013 alongside does no favours to this bigger wine. High-toned slightly candy notes, but obviously a very superior champagne. (JR) — Jancis Robinson, 18th November 2021

Cristal

The Czar's Cuvée

Produced by the celebrated Champagne house, Louis Roederer, and with a history spanning over two centuries, Cristal is the pinnacle of the House’s production and is only made in the finest vintages. First commissioned by Tsar Alexander II to create a special personal cuvée, Cristal was reintroduced by the House in 1924 as the first prestige cuvée Champagne.

Only produced during the best years, Cristal is a blend of around 40% Chardonnay and 60% Pinot Noir, aged for six years in Louis Roederer’s cellars and left for a further eight months after dégorgement. A wonderfully vibrant and forward Champagne in youth, mature examples offer a complex, layered experience similar to that of a fine white Burgundy.
