Cristal was originally created in 1876 for Tsar Alexander II of Russia and is known for its finesse and luxurious character. This release from the 1997 vintage has had ample time to develop in the bottle, resulting in a complex and mature champagne. On the nose, expect to find aromas of ripe stone fruits, candied citrus peel, honey, toasted nuts, and a hint of brioche. The palate displays a rich and creamy texture, with notes of apricot, baked apple, lemon curd and almond, balanced by a bright acidity and a mineral-driven finish.

Light gold, with a hint of copper. Expansive and powerful on the nose, displaying scents of honey, light toffee, fresh fig and baked apples. Dense and thick, with serious heft; emphatically not an aperitif style of Champagne. The flavors of ripe apple and pear, singed butter and baking spices are concentrated and deep. Boasts a velvety, weighty texture that carries through the finish.Josh Raynolds1st November 2005

Cristal

The Czar's Cuvée

Produced by the celebrated Champagne house, Louis Roederer, and with a history spanning over two centuries, Cristal is the pinnacle of the House’s production and is only made in the finest vintages. First commissioned by Tsar Alexander II to create a special personal cuvée, Cristal was reintroduced by the House in 1924 as the first prestige cuvée Champagne.

Only produced during the best years, Cristal is a blend of around 40% Chardonnay and 60% Pinot Noir, aged for six years in Louis Roederer’s cellars and left for a further eight months after dégorgement. A wonderfully vibrant and forward Champagne in youth, mature examples offer a complex, layered experience similar to that of a fine white Burgundy.
