Louis Roederer Blanc de Blancs 2017 is produced exclusively from Chardonnay grapes sourced from the Grand Cru vineyards of Avize and Mesnil-sur-Oger. This Champagne exhibits a marked minerality, reflective of its chalky terroir. The palate reveals notes of citrus zest and a subtle almond character, while the wine`s structure provides length and depth. Roederer, founded in 1776, is one of the last major Champagne houses to remain family-owned, maintaining strict quality control throughout its production. This vintage can be appreciated now, with optimal drinking suggested from 2025.

The 2017 Brut Blanc de Blancs, derived from four plots in the mid-slopes of Avize and vinified tw-thirds in stainless steel with the remainder in oak, is a considerable effort in the comparatively challenging year. “Unlike the red grapes, Chardonnay did not have issues with rot,” recalls Jean-Baptiste Lecaillon. Disgorged with seven grams per liter dosage, it soars from the glass with aromas of grapefruit zest, pear and toasted almonds. On the palate, it’s medium to full-bodied, ample and textural, with a low-pressure mousse, vibrant acidity and a long, chalky finish. It’s derived from their estate, which has been farmed organically since 2017 (and certified as such in 2020). For its richness, 2017 reminds one of the 2010 vintage with less exoticism. - Kristaps Karklins

A Titan of Fine Champagne

The Louis Roederer vineyards are located in three classic Champagne districts: the Montagne de Reims, the Vallée de la Marne and the Côte des Blancs, with 240 hectares situated exclusively in the Grands and Premiers Crus of the Marne. The diversity and fertility of these sites provide the House with an extensive and rich palette from which to fashion the wines from the 3 main champagne varieties: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, marrying sumptuous fruit and youthful freshness with the vinosity and depth of mature wines.

With a history spanning over two centuries, Cristal is the pinnacle of the House’s production and is only made in the finest vintages. First commissioned by Tsar Alexander II to create a special personal cuvée, Cristal was reintroduced by the House in 1924 as the first prestige cuvée champagne.

Travelling beyond the borders of the Champagne region itself, Champagne Louis Roederer founded the Roederer Estate in Mendocino County’s fog-shrouded Anderson Valley in 1982, producing one of California's finest sparkling wines including Quartet and Quartet Rosé.
