An 18 Year Old whisky distilled in 1974 at Springbank distillery, Longrow epitomises the rich heritage of Campbeltown’s whisky-making tradition. Bottled at 43% ABV, this peated single malt reflects the distillery’s revival with its robust character. The flavour profile is built on layers of peat smoke, maritime salinity, damp earth, and a medicinal quality that has developed over its long maturation. Distilled from floor-malted Barley and crafted in direct-fired stills, it reveals an industrial texture, diverging from contemporary peated whiskies. This 1974 vintage serves as a historical touchstone for connoisseurs, marking a distinctive era before the distillery`s 1980s hiatus.

Springbank

The Jewel of Campbeltown

Founded in 1828 by the Reid family, Springbank was acquired by the Mitchell family less than a decade later and has been operated by them ever since. Situated in Campbeltown, on the west coast of Scotland, Springbank actually produce whisky in three distinct styles under three different labels - Springbank, Longrow and Hazelburn. Springbank is produced using the distillery's distinctive '2.5 times' distillation technique, Longrow is a double-distilled whisky made with heavily peated malt and Hazelburn is a smooth, triple distilled single malt.

Official bottlings are, thankfully, still very common and independent bottlings also quite easy to track down. Springbank has long experimented with cask finishes and experimental limited editions. In recent years, a three bottle series of "local barley" editions focussed on whisky produced using only malt from farms close to the distillery.
