Longmorn 56 Year Old 1968 Heritage Connoisseurs Choice Gordon and MacPhail is an exceptionally rare single malt Speyside whisky from a single first-fill Sherry butt. More than five decades of maturation have produced a liquid with a deep mahogany colour and an intense profile of treacle, dried figs and dark roasted coffee. The original oily distillery character has transformed into complex secondary notes of old leather, balsamic and rancio. It was bottled at cask strength.

A Bold Speyside Spirit

The distillery buildings that would eventually become Longmorn were completed in 1894 by John Duff and company. Longmorn itself was officially founded in 1897 with Longmorn II following a year later on the plot next door. Longmorn II would soon be renamed BenRiach, a distillery still in operation today. John Duff and company eventually went bankrupt in 1909 following attempts to establish distilleries in American and South America and the distillery changed hands. Seagram acquired Longmorn in 1978 and the distillery eventually passed to Pernod Ricard after a series of acquisitions and mergers.

Sherry oak is favoured at Longmorn and the result is a rich, full spirit with notes of dried fruit, spice and citrus oils. The distillery has proven track record of producing spirit hardy enough to withstand extended oak-ageing with venerable independent bottlings from Gordon and MacPhail proving a hit with Speyside lovers.
