Since 1995, superstar boutique producer, Lokoya, has produced an exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon from the steep, mountainous Veeder Peak estate vineyard which sits at 1,800ft in elevation. The 2012 is an astonishingly good release which will continue to give vast levels of enjoyment for the next 25 years. This is an example of winemaker Chris Carpenter at the peak of his powers and is about as formidable as Napa Cabernet can get.

Lokoya's 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Mount Veeder presents a more linear and less voluptuous expression of mountain Cabernet Sauvignon than the Howell Mountain bottling tasted alongside it. Energy, tension and pulsating vibrancy are the signatures. Dark blue and purplish fruit, menthol, cedar and licorice meld together in an ample, broad Cabernet Sauvignon supported by huge beams of tannin. Beautifully balanced and harmonious throughout, the 2012 should drink beautifully for many years to come. Antonio Galloni1st December 2014

An Expression of Vintage and Place

Established in 1995, Lokoya is a collection of four distinct Cabernet Sauvignons from four of Napa Valley’s most celebrated high altitude vineyards - Mount Veeder, Howell Mountain, Spring Mountain and Diamond Mountain. These limited-production wines are 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, fermented with native yeast, and bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Given the high elevation of the sites, the vineyards demand constant attention. The deep understanding of the vineyard trajectory in each vintage comes from Winemaker Christopher Carpenter’s years of expertise. Intervention is kept to a minimum both in the vineyard and in the cellar, leaving the fruit to express itself as naturally and eloquently as possible.
