Situated in the Scottish Lowlands, Lochlea has been producing single malt whisky since 2018. The distillery is housed on a farm, which was once owned by Robert Burns’ family, and on which Burns himself actually lived and worked from 1777-1784. Ploughing Edition is inspired by winter on the farm, matured in a combination of ex-Islay barrels and peated quarter casks. It carries notes of boiled sweets, cooked apple and Brazil nuts, complemented by light peat smoke.

Small, but perfectly formed

One of the newest Lowland distilleries and a true 'barley to bottle' project. Founders Neil and Jen come from a agricultural background and, upon acquiring the farm in 2006, immediately saw the potential to grow a grain crop and produce whisky on their Ayreshire farm - thus Lochlea was born with distillery construction beginning in 2017.

Lochlea is on a small scale compared with most commercial Scottish distilleries. The team, lead by former Laphroaig distillery manage John Campbell produce approximately 180,000 litres of pure alcohol a year using a two tonne semi lauter mash tun, six Douglas Fir wooden washbacks and two bespoke stills. They fill approximately 30 casks per week.
