Littorai Cerise Vineyard Pinot Noir 2022 is a single-vineyard red sourced from the esteemed Cerise Vineyard located in California`s Anderson Valley AVA. Littorai Wines, noted for its biodynamic practices, applies minimal intervention techniques in winemaking. The 2022 vintage faced a challenging growing season characterised by drought and spring frosts, producing Pinot Noir that encapsulates youthful fruit character. This wine undergoes native yeast fermentation and approximately 16 months of ageing in French oak, with about 25% new wood. Tasting notes indicate a profile of red fruits, spice and earthy undertones, alongside firm tannins and notable acidity, suitable for medium to long-term ageing.

2022 will be the last iteration of the Cerise Vineyard Pinot Noir from Littorai. Ted Lemon says they decided not to renew the long-term contract for their parcel of grapes, planted for them in 1998 (Cerise Vineyard was purchased by Kosta Browne in 2016). “They were great, but it didn`t make sense to continue,” Ted explains. The 2022 Pinot Noir Cerise Vineyard has layered aromas of red and black cherries, mushrooms, iodine and black tea. The palate is powerful and earthy, its dark flavors streaked with woodsmoke. It’s framed by firm, chalky tannins and vibrant acidity and has a long, earth-laced finish. 250 cases were made.
Vinous
- The 2022 Pinot Noir Cerise Vineyard is another of the more understated wines in this range. I like the energy, but the fruit needs time to emerge. Bright saline notes cut through a core of exuberant red-toned fruit, cinnamon, orange peel, cedar and pipe tobacco. A dollop of whole clusters (25%) works well here. The long, sustained finish is striking.
