Les Tourelles de Longueville 2010 is a second wine from Chateau Pichon Baron, primarily sourced from the Sainte-Anne plot in Pauillac. The 2010 vintage is a powerful and fruit-driven blend of 60% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc, benefiting from the exceptional structural density and acidity of this legendary year. The magnum format allows for a slower, more nuanced development of its complex notes of black cherries, spice box and roasted herbs. Maturation in French oak has polished the tannins, creating a supple and generous palate that maintains the estate’s signature aristocratic poise.

Deep garnet in color, the 2010 Les Tourelles de Longueville has a pretty nose of wilted roses, dried lavender and kirsch followed by notions of boysenberries, warm cassis and unsmoked cigars with a waft of cedar chest. Medium-bodied, the palate is a bit edgy with mouth-coating, chewy tannins and bold freshness masking the fruit slightly on the finish.

The 2010 Les Tourelles de Longueville has a pretty, more floral bouquet than its peers, hints of wilted violet joining the vibrant black fruit, rendering this quite Margaux-like in style. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity, a little chewy but with good body and depth towards the finish. What is just missing is the precision and finesse on the finish. Good potential, but I would like to see more pedigree. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners 10-Year On Bordeaux horizontal.
