Owned by the Guinaudeau family, Château Lafleur is a relatively small-scale Pomerol estate covering just 4.5 hectares. Positioned across from Pétrus, it has earned a well-deserved reputation for crafting some of the most coveted and highly acclaimed wines in the region. An addition to their range, `Les Perrières de Lafleur,` made its debut in 2014. This wine is sourced from a specific vineyard plot located within the Pomerol appellation, featuring a mixture of clay and gravel soils. While generally more approachable in its early years compared to the Grand Vin, it remains true to Lafleur`s hallmark qualities of concentration, elegance, and complexity.

The 2022 Les Perrières de Lafleur is the broadest, most unctuous rendition of this wine to date, but it retains its taut, minerally identity for all that. Offering up aromas of mulberries, violets and pen ink, it's medium to full-bodied, rich and incisive, with terrific depth and persistence. As readers will remember, Les Perrières derives from parcels situated on the higher-altitude plateau of Fronsac, planted with vine material from Château Lafleur. — William Kelley, 6th March 2025

Gorgeous limestone focus, with liquorice bud, raspberry leaf, and clear verticality just in the aromatics. Pulses of electricity, blueberry and steel, mouthwatering and salivating, finessed tannins, a ton of lift, exciting to see how this ages. A wine that begs you to geek out, and you are only too happy to do so. Harvest 9 and 22 September, vines on 3.6ha of limestone plateau (the Lafleur team now has 15ha of land there, with more planted last year so now 5.2ha planted, waiting for production in 2027). 33% new oak for ageing. — Jane Anson, 6th March 2025

The 2022 Les Perrières has an outgoing bouquet with black cherries, liquorice and touches of pencil box, the oak neatly integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins. Harmonious with well integrated oak, this feels silky smooth towards the finish. There is a discrete sophistication about this wine. This vintage of Les Perrières from the Guinaudeau family is a blend of equal parts Merlot and Cabernet Franc, with an élevage in one-third new oak, the other two-thirds in second-fill barrels. A freshly opened sample bottle here, unlike the other Guinaudeau wines, as the first bottle of this was corked, so I came back to this one again at the end of the visit, A very pure, crushed berry and bramble fruits, with layers of dark chocolate and toast, with time more floral, iris and violet notes. The palate is no less focused than the nose, with a fresh layer of red cherry, leathery oak and a structure of dry and tight tannins, with fresh acidity. Lovely sappy quality to the finish here, a touch juicy and mouth-watering, but with a firm grip of tannins. The alcohol is 15% on the label, the same on analysis, but unlike Grand Village this does not show so strongly. — Chris Kissack, 5th June 2025

Pomerol's Other Superstar
Château Lafleur has come to be recognised as one of greatest producers in Pomerol, offering wines of incredible balance, purity and elegance, with distinct mineral character. A stand out name for Bordeaux's Right Bank, the estate also produces a second red, Les Pensées de Lafleur, produced from a 0.68ha plot with its own distinct terroir - resulting in a lighter, more fragrant style compared to the Lafleur.
Despite both wines being classic blends of Cabernet Franc and Merlot with 20% new oak, the result is two quite different expressions: for example the the dominance of cigar-box and graphite Cabernet Franc complexity in the Lafleur.
