Produced by the talented team at Château Lafleur, the 2021 Les Perrières consists of 59% Merlot and 41% Cabernet Franc. It is a wine of exceptional quality, poised to potentially surpass its predecessors from 2019 and 2018. The nose reveals striking purity, exuding aromas of raspberries, violets, rose petals, tobacco smoke, and sweet spices. With a medium to full-bodied profile, the wine showcases depth and complexity, displaying concentrated and precise characteristics. Its structure is finely chiselled, complemented by a bright acidity, polished tannins, and a lingering, saline finish.

The 2021 Les Perrières is a very serious wine, just as it was en primeur. Dark cherry, mocha, licorice, spice, gravel and crushed rocks build effortlessly. There's a level of dynamic energy here that is just beguiling. Cabernet Franc and limestone soils are so distinctive. I would give this a few years in bottle. Impressive. A blend of 38% Merlot and 62% Cabernet Franc (Bouchet), the 2021 Les Perrieres from Chateau Lafleur has a medium to deep garnet-purple color. It starts off a little shy, soon unfurling to reveal notes of redcurrant preserves, fresh blackberries, and Sichuan pepper, followed by nuances of star anise, underbrush, and wild sage. The medium-bodied palate is very tightly wound, with vibrant red berry and savory layers, framed by fine-grained tannins and great tension, finishing on a lingering, peppery note.Lisa Perrotti-Brown23rd April 2024

62% Bouchet (Cabernet Franc), 38% Merlot. Cask sample.Mineral and floral notes. Terroir (limestone) driven. Lots of tannins but the flesh to round them out. Bright and fresh with a chalk and saline finish but still finding its feet. (JL)

Pomerol's Other Superstar
Château Lafleur has come to be recognised as one of greatest producers in Pomerol, offering wines of incredible balance, purity and elegance, with distinct mineral character. A stand out name for Bordeaux's Right Bank, the estate also produces a second red, Les Pensées de Lafleur, produced from a 0.68ha plot with its own distinct terroir - resulting in a lighter, more fragrant style compared to the Lafleur.
Despite both wines being classic blends of Cabernet Franc and Merlot with 20% new oak, the result is two quite different expressions: for example the the dominance of cigar-box and graphite Cabernet Franc complexity in the Lafleur.
