Les Forts de Latour 1989 is a full-bodied, Cabernet Sauvignon-based red wine from the Pauillac appellation of Bordeaux. First produced in 1966, Les Forts de Latour is the second wine from the world-renowned Pauillac First Growth Château Latour. From the legendary 1989 Bordeaux vintage, this is an assemblage of Cabernet Sauvignon 70% and Merlot 30%. "Seductive aromas of dried autumn leaves, dried flowers and lovely floral notes. This wine has gorgeous, fresh array of flavours and a long finish." Jeannie Cho Lee, 2013

The 1989 Les Forts de Latour is a vintage that I have never encountered before. At this time, it would have come almost entirely from the lieu-dit of Petit Batailley, over toward Haut-Batailley, plus a small number of younger vines from L’Enclos. It was cropped at 55hl/ha at the time. Quite deep in color with just thin bricking on the rim, it has a lovely bouquet of black plum, mint and light cedar scents. It feels very delineated and focused, though not powerful. The palate is medium-bodied and soy-tinged on the entry. This 1989 is well structured, harmonious and agile, with quite a long tail on the finish. At 30 years of age, the 1989 demonstrates just how well this wine repays those with the patience to cellar it. Tasted from an ex-cellar bottle at the château. Neal Martin1st September 2019

A Towering First Growth

Situated on the Bordeaux's Left Bank in the appellation of Pauillac, this superb First Growth is produced from the estate's 92ha of vines, spread across 138 plots, (47 hectares of which are located in renowned 'L'Enclos'). The clay and gravel soils give superbly concentrated, textural Cabernet Sauvignon dominant reds, with Merlot and smaller percentages of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc making up the blend.

The estate also produces two further celebrated reds, Les Forts de Latour and Pauillac de Latour. Certified organic since 2018, biodynamic techniques are also used in the vineyard.
