Owned by the Delon family since the mid-20th century, Château Léoville-Las Cases is a Second Growth wine estate situated in the Saint-Julien appellation. The property covers 98 hectares of vineyards, and the vines are situated alongside those of Château Latour, just over the Saint-Julien border. The 2021 vintage is a blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc and just 5% Merlot, aged in 85% new barrels. It boasts a pristine and ripe centre of black fruits, intertwined with remarkably smooth and mature tannins. The bright acidity adds vibrancy, and the lingering finish is remarkably long, accompanied by a refreshing herbal aftertaste. Presented here in a magnum format.

The 2021 Léoville Las-Cases is a wine of elegance and restraint. Yes, I am writing that about a young Las-Cases. Perhaps it is the higher level of Cabernet Franc in this year's blend that adds aromatic presence and gives the wine its refined character. Blue/purplish fruit, lavender, mint, spice and rose petal linger on the delicate, understated finish. Antonio Galloni27th February 2024

A blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot, and 15% Cabernet Franc, the 2021 Leoville Las Cases is deep garnet-purple in color. It needs a fair bit of swirling and coaxing to reveal a pronounced core of cassis, Morello cherries, and mulberries, giving way to a fragrant undercurrent of tilled soil, charcoal, violets, and cedar, plus a touch of Sichuan pepper. The medium-bodied palate delivers impressive, tightly wound layers of black fruits and minerals, framed by ripe, fine-grained tannins and wonderful tension, finishing long and perfumed. All minerals and florals - very pretty!Lisa Perrotti-Brown23rd April 2024

Right away on the nose this is chiselled and austere in all the right places, with huge depth and character. Concentrated creme de cassis, with a hidden creamy mid palate that lurks underneath the tannic frame. Plenty of estate signature, meaning cassis, espresso, billberry, slate and graphite. Great quality, and supremely Léoville Las Cases. 85% new oak, just a touch down from normal in reflection of the vintage.Jane Anson2nd April 2024

Very deep crimson. Intense, almost flattering cassis nose. Quite attention-grabbing and sweet for the vintage. Very vibrant. Long. (JR)

The illustrious 2ème Cru Classé property, Château Léoville Las Cases, has cemented its reputation as one of the most consistent producers of exceptional quality wines in the Saint Julien appellation in Bordeaux. Spanning 98ha, the estate produces its celebrated first wine - a Cabernet Sauvignon dominant blend - in addition to a second wine from young vines, Le Petit Lion. These stellar reds are renowned for their structure and longevity and are produced from the beating heart of the estate, on deep, well-draining gravel soils.

Two further wines are made from a separate site, situated further back from the river with more sandy-gravels: Clos de Marquis and Petite Marquise. The key varietals that make up these powerful red wines are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc.
